Distractive Driving – Keep Your Eyes On The Road And Off Your Mobile Phone.
As a result of the high number of road traffic accidents in Cyprus, police launched a campaign to warn drivers to drive safely and not to ignore the laws of the road.
One of the biggest causes of road traffic accidents is through distractive driving, which means taking your eyes off the road. There are three types of distractive driving:
Taking your eyes off the road
Taking your hand off the wheel
Taking your mind off your driving
There are many reasons for a driver to take his eyes off the road; it could be down to talking to a friend, using a mobile phone or even eating and drinking.
Texting or using a mobile phone has become one of the biggest causes of distractive driving accidents, with more mobile phones available, more people are now using them when they are driving.
Mobile Phones & Driving
Using a mobile phone when driving is not only putting yourself at risk, you are also putting other people at risk, which could result in that person or you losing their life.
Just like using a car, which can take you to your place of destination in comfort and style, a mobile can kill a person in the wrong hands.
A vehicle has always been known as a killing machine in the wrong hands, and now a mobile phone is also gaining that reputation.
Each year around the world tens of thousands of people die through using a mobile phone while driving. Sometimes it’s the driver who is using the mobile phone that will die.
Other times it will be a passenger or the driver of the other vehicle, leaving the man responsible waking up each day trying to live with the death they have caused by not putting the mobile phone out of reach.
Cypriot Police Cracking Down
Cyprus police are trying to crack down on the high death rate on their roads; they are warning people about drinking and driving, not wearing a seatbelt, speeding, and using a mobile phone while driving.
It is important to drive safely on the roads of Cyprus. So, the next time you are driving, and you feel like using your phone, then look in the mirror and ask yourself, do you want to see tomorrow, and could you live with yourself if you caused the death of the person sitting next to you or the driver of another vehicle?
