Heathrow airport is soon to trial the world’s first driverless transfer pods which will link from Terminal 5’s business car park to the main terminal.
Each pod will be able to carry four passengers plus their luggage. Travellers will enter their destination via a touch screen and the pod will take them directly there with no stops.Â Transfer times from Business Parking at terminal 5 to the main terminal will be approximately 5 minutes.
Pods can reach speeds of up to 25mph, are battery powered and run along dedicated guideways, there will be approximately 21 pods running.
Heathrow airport have stated that this will cut waiting times down to virtually nothing and will totally cut local ommisions.
