Gatwick Airport To Wait For New Runway Decision
Gatwick Airport has been fighting for a new runway for a number of years, saying they will spend millions of pounds in providing more routes to local airports around the UK. However, it seems they will have to wait a little longer to see if they have succeeded.
Airports Commission Listen To Campaigners
Sir Howard Davies, the chairman of the Airports Commission, has announced the decision will take longer after deciding to take further evidence on the problems caused by a new runway.
Green campaigners against a new runway have said it will have a negative effect in air pollution. At a time when the Supreme Court rules the UK needs to do more to improve air quality, it seems Sir Howard Davies has had no option but to listen to the campaigners and investigate more.
There are currently three options on the table for a new runway; these include Gatwick, Heathrow, or extending one of the two existing runways at Heathrow.
Not everyone agrees with the three options, many believe a new airport should be built while other people believe smaller airports should be extended.
If Gatwick Airport is given the go ahead, many believe an appeal will take place, delaying a new runway by at least another two years.
