1000 Leicestershire Parents Fined For Term-Time Holidays.. Why?
Although MPs and David Cameron think everyone earns as much as them and can afford holidays in peak season when travel agents raise their prices, however, in reality they can’t.
Let’s be honest, most MPs expenses could pay for a holiday without the need for dipping into their high wages, so why should they be bothered to look at the term-time holiday fine again? The answer is because it’s hurting people’s pockets and making teachers very unpopular.
Penalty Notices Issued
In Leicestershire, it has just been revealed that nearly 1,000 penalty notices have been issued to parents for taking their children out of school during term time for a cheaper holiday.
Although this is bad news for parents, leaving them struggling even more to pay the fine, let’s look at the bright side.
At least David Cameron will have extra money to waste on all the public engagements and put money to the £30m restoration of the Houses of Parliament. Oh, hold on a minute, the taxpayer is already paying for that.
The new figures show that parents received the fines between September 2014 to July 2015. A total of 983 notices were issued to parents for trying to take their children on a much-deserved family holiday.
The figures are an increase from the previous year where only 716 penalty notices were issued. So what does that tell you?
To us, it says parents are saying no to David Cameron and his school term holiday ban. Or they are saying, we cannot afford to pay the high prices during the summer holidays, and we can only afford to take children on holiday when they should be at school. If we look at it closely, there are many people to blame but most of the blame goes to the government.
Who Is To Blame?
The government is the one who has caused working class families around the UK to struggle. The cost of living is going through the roof, parents are struggling on low wages, and the government will not bring in a realistic living wage. So, with the school term holiday ban, the government is the most at fault, but let’s look at the travel agents.
The travel agents are the ones that love the school term holiday ban. It allows them to push up the prices even more. They know that parents will have to pay it if they don’t want to get in trouble with the overpaid and out of touch Prime Minister who does not know how much a loaf of bread is at the supermarket.
So what can be done about it? Well, how about using common sense. The ban was brought in by an out of touch government who don’t know what it’s like to struggle.
They should allow parents to take children out of school for one week per year. That would then allow children to have a family holiday and parents not to overpay for the same destination at a different time of year.
The government should also tackle travel agents for increasing prices and taking advantage of the unfair system.
Will this ever happen? Let’s be honest and say no.
