David Cameron is back in Number 10 while Ed Miliband is off on his holiday to get over the shock of his election defeat, but that, to be honest, is not the important issue. The important issue is the school holiday ban that keeps cropping up in the news and yet David Cameron whose government introduced the ban is not noticing how it is failing.
Tens of Thousands of parents have been fined for taking their children out of school for a family holiday, and yet David Cameron is still not getting the message the fine system does not work. Parents are not taking their children out of school during term time for the fun of it, and they are not doing it so the government earn money from their fines and spend it on luxury dinner parties. Parents take their children out of school to grab a cheap holiday as they cannot afford the high prices travel agents charge when schools are closed.
Important Family Time
We understand that David Cameron would like to see children get a good education even though he has failed to flash the cash and increase the required spending the education system needs. We also understand that it is important for children to go to school on a regular basis. However, what David Cameron needs to understand is parents and children need quality time together, and children especially need a holiday at least once a year.
Let’s be honest, David Cameron does not have a clue about the real world. How can he when doesn’t know how much a loaf of bread is, or how much the living wage is in and out of London? So, how would he understand how parents struggle on a daily basis and how they struggle to afford a holiday during summer due to the travel industry becoming greedy and increasing their prices? But someone in the real world should knock on his door and explain what the real world is like. They should explain how parents struggle and why parents have no problem in being fined when they can save a great deal of money by taking their children on holiday during term time.
A Fair Approach
David Cameron needs to stop counting his pennies and making his friends richer. He needs to listen to the real people and understand why they are prepared to ignore the ban and work with them. School teachers are saying the ban does not work, parents are saying the ban does not work, and now even some MPs are saying the ban is wrong. What the Prime Minister needs to do when he has got over the shock of winning the election again, is to either look at the ban again. He needs tackle the travel industry and stop them from raising their prices when schools are closed or relax the ban.
There are many options open to David Cameron; one option could be to let parents take their children out of school for five days a year. The other option would be to tackle the growing problem of travel agents increasing their prices when children are off school. The other option would be to change the term times for different areas in the country, as this could combat rising prices.
Ban Could Affect Some Children
It is being reported that children are being affected by the school holiday ban. Children need to re-charge their batteries, and if they don’t then they will not perform as well as they should at school. Whichever way you look at the ban and the reasons behind it, it is not working.
