In The Future Flying To America Could Take Just 58 Minutes.
However, a British company called Reaction Engines is looking to reduce that time and help people fly to America in less than an hour.
Reaction Engines is testing hypersonic aircraft, which could boost the British Economy by making it possible for an aircraft to travel at speeds of Mach 2.5 to Mach 5.
Although some people say, this is just a pipe dream, according to aviation experts that dream could become a reality.
LAPCAT A2 is Reaction Engines’ new technologies, it stands for Long Term Advanced Propulsion concepts and Technologies.
According to the company it will be possible to fly from Brussels to Sydney in 4.6 hours. Because it will be flying at Mach speeds the flight from Brussels would have to go via the North Pole and the Bearing Straights to avoid flying supersonically over Europe and Asia.
The aircraft could carry 300 passengers plus baggage and when flying at Mach 5 speed it would be at an altitude of 25 – 28 km.
Take a look at their promotional video showing the route etc.. https://vimeo.com/45212683
Nasa is also hoping to produce a passenger plane that will make it possible to fly anywhere in the world in less time than it takes to fly from Manchester to London.
