Teacher Who Took Her Children Out Of School For A Holiday Fined £240
The school holiday ban has caused thousands of parents to miss out on a cheap holiday with a large majority of them being unable to afford to a family holiday. Now it seems it is not just parents who are angry, a teacher from Manchester has felt the full force of the ban after taking her children on holiday during term time.
Jenny Hayden, 39, a teacher from Manchester and her husband Anthony, 40, were fined £240 when they decided to take their two children out of school for a 12-day break last month. The couple decided they wanted to give their children an educational holiday and took them to Peru.
The mother of two explained she and her husband wanted their children to experience the history of the South American country. She took her children on an educational tour visiting Inca ruins, walking up Machu Picchu, mixing with mountain communities and going on a cultural tour of the capital, Lima. However, it seems Wright Robinson College, in Manchester, did not appreciate the educational holiday and rewarded them with a fine of £120 for each child.
Mrs Hayden did not take the fine sitting down. The teacher who set up her own pre-school, wrote on Facebook: “As a teacher myself I feel those seven days away from school did not jeopardise my children’s education in any way, it ultimately enhanced it.
She said she would pay the fine but at the same time she will pat herself on the back for investing in her children’s education, and would do it again tomorrow.
