UK Family Take Legal Action Against Tour Operator
A family from Ingatestone, Essex were hoping for a dream holiday in Egypt. However, that dream turned into a nightmare when they found themselves to be covered with hundreds of bed bug bites and falling ill within a few days of arriving at the five-star Sunwing Waterworld Makadi Hotel.
Rae Claydon and his partner, Rachel, went to the five-star resort to celebrate their anniversary. The couple who took with them Rachel’s five-year-old daughter, accompanied with Rae’s mother were hoping for an amazing holiday, but it did not turn out the way they expected it to.
Bitten In Bed
According to the couple, on the first night of their stay all four members of the family were covered with insect bites with Rachel needing painkillers, a cortisone injection and antihistamines due to receiving hundreds of bites. The 39-year-old claims the scars on her legs are from bites from bed bugs in their hotel room.
Things Get Worse
The couple said they complained about the room and were moved to another room within the hotel, but the next morning they felt very ill and suffered from diarrhoea, stomach cramps and vomiting. Rachel explained they were too ill to eat or drink for 24 hours.
Rachel, an accountant, said she lost half a stone in weight while her partner, a 49-year old company director said the dream holiday was a disaster.
Couple Taking Action
The couple have instructed Irwin Mitchell to start legal proceedings against the holiday company.
A spokesman for Red Sea Holidays UK declined to comment, as the complaint is now a legal matter.

We can’t do anything about bed bugs, but we can do something about your airport parking arrangements.
