How To Get Your Free EHIC Card.

EHIC CardA lot of people are going abroad without their EHIC Card, the EHIC Card is something that everyone should have with them when visiting places like Spain.

There are many reasons why people do not have them, one reason is they are not aware of them, and what they do, another reason is, they do not know how to apply for one, and the third and most important reason is, they think they have to pay for one.

The EHIC Card is free, if you see sites charging for them then report them, you do not need to pay for one.

The EHIC card or as it is known European Health Insurance Card is free. It allows a person visiting a European country to get free or discounted medical care.

However, even though it is free, half of the people who go abroad do not have one, and over 5.2 million people who do have one have one that expired in 2015.

We have put together some information to help people understand more about the EHIC Card and how to apply for one.

How Does The Free European Health Insurance Card Work?

The European Health Insurance Card is not a replacement for travel insurance; please don’t make that mistake. The EHIC Card provides the holder with free or discounted treatment in a state-run hospital in any European country.

By being a card holder, you will be entitled to the same treatment and services as the local residents. When applying for an EHIC card it is valid for five years, but remember to renew it when it runs out.

Will My EHIC Card replace my travel insurance?

No! It’s important to remember that you need to purchase travel insurance when going on holiday. The EHIC is not a replacement for travel insurance.

It allows you to receive health services like local residents, but if the local residents have to pay for a certain health service, then you will also have to pay for it.

The EHIC Card will not cover you if you need private treatment, or need special treatment; that is what your travel insurance is for.

Children Must Have Their Own EHIC Card

If you are taking your children on holiday, then it is important to apply for a card for them. Your children will not be covered on your card and will need their own.

How To Get A Free European Health Insurance Card

There are different ways to get a free EHIC Card, but please note, do not search for them on Google. A lot of websites out there are trying to make money from the health insurance card.

You can apply for an EHIC card by applying on the official EHIC website or you can contact 0300 330 1350. The card will take around 10 days to arrive.

Remember, the EHIC Card is free and should be with you at all times when visiting a European country.
