Why Do So Many Brits Holiday In Benidorm?

Why Take A Holiday In Benidorm?

Benidorm has always been one of the top holiday resorts in Spain, but since the ITV comedy show was launched, it has become even more popular.

However, a lot of people still look down on Benidorm and call it the Blackpool of Spain, but is that true and are these people who look down on the popular Costa Blanca resort missing out?

When people visit Benidorm for a holiday and then go elsewhere, a lot of them say they always find themselves comparing their current holiday to the one they had in the Costa Blanca. It’s true, there seems to be something about Benidorm that drags people back time and time again.

Accommodation

With over 27 four star hotels and many good three star hotels, in fact it has to be said that a lot of the so called three star hotels look more like four star. Benidorm has accommodation to suit everyone’s taste and budget. Most of the bigger hotels are virtually a stone throws away from the beach.

If your budget doesn’t even stretch to three star then one of your best options for a two star place to say absolutely needs to be Santa Faz hotel situated in the tourist area of Benidorm and on the doorstep of the beach and local bars.

Sol Pelicanos Ocas Hotel BenidormThe Sol Pelicanos Ocas is a great hotel with excellent amenities and very helpful staff according to Tripadvisor. There is another possible reason to choose this hotel, it’s where they film the ITV series Benidorm.

For those that don’t want the hassle of staying in a hotel, there are lots of different apartments to choose from, including those on offer for up to six months.

Entertainment & Attractions

If we move away from the accommodation and look at the entertainment on offer, then you will start to see why so many people go back year after year, with some going more than times a year.

You could experience the famous Aqualandia water park, with its 15 fantastic water rides to suite all ages. There’s also the more recent Aqua Natura covering 40,000 sqm with plenty of water rides including The Black Hole water schute. It also has a wave pool and an aquarium.

If you’re in Benidorm with the family and don’t fancy getting wet one day you could visit Terra Natura where you can see around 1,500 animals from more than 200 species, some of which are close to extinction.

There are also plenty of things to do in Benidorm which you would not instantly associate with the place, such as museums, parks & gardens plus several local markets on various days selling local goods and local food.

When it comes to entertainment in the day time, you still have so much on offer to keep the whole family entertained. There are bike rides, golf courses, water sports, various boat trips and zoos, plus so much more. No one day has to be the same unless you’re happy just lazing on the beach or by the pool.

Nightlife

KU Lounge BenidormBenidorm is the only place in the world where you can visit one bar for free and listen to a Take That tribute band, and then go to another bar and listen to a Queen tribute band, and let’s not forget, you can also go to a bar and listen to Elvis. Oh yes, Elvis is still alive, well in Benidorm at least.

There is so much entertainment available, from tribute bands, to live bands, to comedy and even the famous Sticky Vicky (If you have the stomach for it), you could never get bored.

In fact we could do a whole post just about the nightlife in Benidorm! It’s vast and caters for everybody. Here are just a few of the places dotted around Benidorm -

1. The Beach Bar - located at the end of Levante beach. It’s a great place to enjoy a few drinks whilst enjoying the views out to sea, you can even keep an eye on the kids on the beach!

2. If you want a bar which shows all the sport then try The Drop Inn. It also serves Sunday lunches every day!

3. If you’re looking for that real beach club ambience get yourselves to KU Lounge overlooking Levante beach. With its comfy sofas, relaxed/chilled music and terrace we think you might stay longer than you intended!

4. Champions Bar - situated in the square, it is a sports bar with its very own mechanical bull! The music is very good here with plenty of room to dance. Apparently they also have a Frank Gallagher (from shameless) impersonator!

So, we’ve picked four different types of bars but we could as easily have picked 40! There really is no place like Benidorm for offering such a massive variety of nightlife all so close to each other. We havn’t even mentioned the cabaret and karaoke bars!

Food

For those that like food and do not want to stay in an all-inclusive hotel, then there is every type of food you could ever imagine. From burgers, pies, fish and chips, steak, sushi, to Spanish tapas.

You can also find many excellent Spanish restaurants using local produce. Take a very short taxi trip to the outskirts of town in just about any direction and you’ll definitely stumble across a small restaurant/bar serving traditional tapas.

Take a trip to the well liked Amigos in Benidorm and try their Cajun fishcake starters or their black pudding which is raved about on Tripadvisor. Amigo’s is also well known for quality fillet steaks.

If you like a decent carvery then you definitely must go to Monroes Carvery. They also offer an la carte menu, vegetarian dishes and kids meals.

In Benidorm there are two things for sure, one, you will never find a beer that you don’t like, and the second, is you will never go hungry.

Beaches

Benidorm BeachesThe beeches and the weather are another good reason to visit Benidorm. You have two main beaches, Levante (2km long) and Poniente (over 3km long).

They are both popular and long beaches, with soft golden sand. Both beaches have excellent facilities such as more than enough sun loungers, restaurants, bars, sports areas, playgrounds and disabled access.

During the summer months and even during the winter, you will see the beach filled with people sunbathing while others enjoy watersports and beach sports.

Of course if you wanted to hire a car you can also find little secluded coves and beaches. In fact you don’t even have to hire a car really, there is Cala Mal Pas which is situated between Levante and Poniente. Cala Mal Pas is a beautiful small cove which seperates these two massive beaches, it’s only about 120m long but it offers a much more relaxing atmosphere.

If you have not tried Benidorm before, then with the cheap prices, great Euro rate and with just two and a half hours on a flight, you are missing out.
